About

Welcome!

My name is Jessica and I live in Ontario, Canada.

Until I turned 24, my story wasn’t terribly different from that of my peers.  I was growing up, and hitting milestones – excited for the future.

Then, in 2004 as I finished an undergraduate degree in Journalism, I fell ill with a mysterious illness that left me wobbly, and weak.

In weeks, I lost the ability to walk unassisted, cut my own food and bathe on my own.  I moved back home to be cared for as my body seemed desperate to destroy itself.

Diagnosed as Chronic Inflamatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP)no seriously, that’s what it’s called – what followed was a lot of learning.  Since that time, I have tightroped my way back to functionality and life is good.  Things may not look or feel the way I thought that they would, but if I remember to look, my life is still full of  blessings – big and small.

Keeping my Balance is my space to muse on: the good and the bad; the beautiful and the ugly; the heartbreak and hilarity of my life in general, and my life with a chronic illness.

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you enjoy my adventures.  I’d love to hear from you so please post a comment or email me at into(dot)the(dot)blue(at)live(dot)ca.
